Privatization of 15% of Unitel and BFA: Strategic Opportunities for Investors

The Angolan Government is advancing its privatization agenda by announcing the sale of 15% of the share capital of Unitel, the leading telecommunications operator in the local mobile communications market, which currently holds a 72% market share. This strategic move is part of the broader Privatization Program (ProPriv), initially scheduled for this year, with the process expected to be finalized in the first half of the next year.

Of the stake to be privatized, 2% will be specifically reserved for acquisition under special conditions by Unitel’s employees and board members, as stipulated by law. This provision reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive participation in the company’s transition.

The privatization will be conducted through an Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Angolan Debt and Securities Exchange (BODIVA), offering a unique opportunity for both domestic and international investors to gain a foothold in one of the most influential telecommunications companies in Angola.

In addition to Unitel, the government has authorized the privatization of 15% of the shares held by the state in the capital of Banco de Fomento de Angola (BFA), one of the most profitable banks in the country and a leading dividend payer to its shareholders. This sale will also be executed through Unitel, further consolidating the opportunities available to strategic investors in Angola’s financial sector.
